    This exhibit of political cartoons and graphic images from the Civil War through World War I -- an era of intensive immigration to the U.S. -- explores the role of caricature and stereotype in forming American values and attitudes about a multicultural U.S. Sometimes humorous, sometimes disturbing. the collection (from Michigan State University Museum's Appel Collection) offers insight into American cultural attitudes that endure today and is a remarkable resource for the study of American cultural history.
