Name: Electric Earth Concerts presents "A Forest Unfolding"
    Date: August 12, 2018
    Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM EDT
    Event Description:
Electric Earth Concerts is thrilled to present "A Forest Unfolding" on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 5 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 25 Main Street in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Please join us as National Book Award novelist Richard Powers, author of the recent best-seller The Overstory, presides over an exciting collaboration among four composers, four writers, and an ensemble of stellar musicians. A Forest Unfolding features Tony Arnold, soprano, Alex Hurd, baritone, pianist Molly Morkoski, harpist Stacey Shames, clarinetist Todd Palmer, cellist Robert Burkhart, violinist Ari Isaacman-Beck, flutist Laura Gilbert, and violist Jonathan Bagg. Electric Earth Concerts' extraordinary commission is inspired by recent scientific research into the rich communication and subterranean connectivity among trees. Environmentalists Bill McKibben and Joan Maloof, and novelists Richard Powers and Kim Stanley Robinson selected prose and poetry on the relationships between people and trees. Four acclaimed composers--Eric Moe, Melinda Wagner, Stephen Jaffe, and David Kirkland Garner--set these words into a linked sequence of recitatives and arias. A Forest Unfolding traces a bold narrative arc from human estrangement from nature to a glimpse of the endless cooperation that knits an old-growth forest into a community. The program also includes two celebrated chamber works--the first, ethereal: the second, impassioned. And Then I Knew Twas Wind, by Toru Takemitsu Piano Quartet in A minor, by Gustave Mahler This concert is generously sponsored by Monadnock Paper Mills. General admission is $25. Middle and high school students may attend for free. For more information, contact joan.electricearth@gmail.com or 603.499.6216.
